‘Mosque attack to strengthen Sunni-Shiite unity’

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Sunni and Shiite scholars on Sunday announced their joint stance against the attack on Al-Zohra mosqueinfo-icon in Kabul, saying the attack would further strengthen the unity between the sects.

The attack three days back west of Kabul left four people dead and eight more injured.

Officials had said the suicide bombers wanted to enter the mosque but they were engaged by police guards. The attackers were confined to the mosque’s kitchen until they detonated their explosives.

Daesh or Islamic State group has asserted responsibility for the attack on Al-Zuhra mosque.

Dozens of Shiite and Sunni clerics on Sunday held a joint gathering in Kabul and said the recent attack was aimed at fueling sectarian discord in Afghanistaninfo-icon. They said such attacks were against Islam.

Afghanistan Ulemainfo-icon Council head Qayamuddin Kashaf on the occasion said the enemy wanted to divide the Afghans on ethnic lines.

“We strongly condemn the attacks in this holy month of Ramadaninfo-icon by the enemy. The Shiite and Sunni sects of Afghanistan live in brotherhood and peace, they have no differences and the enemy will not succeed in their nefarious designs.”
