Herat: 4 die, 316 injured in accidents during Eid days

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Four people have been killed and 316 others wounded in traffic accidents during the past four days in western Herat province, local officials said on Monday.

Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, Herat zonal hospital spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the wounded people were brought to the hospital from Herat City, the provincial capital, and districts on the day of Arafah and three days of Eid-ul-Adha.

He said most of the injured were youth and youngsters who got wounded due to speed and recklessness and violation of traffic rules.

“Three dead bodies and 237 people injured in traffic accidents were brought to the hospital during the past four days.”

He said another 39 people injured in street fights, 29 others with stab wounds and 11 more with bullet wounds have also been delivered to the hospital during the period.

“In three days of Eid, 129 incidents occurred, recording a 50 percent increase in traffic mishaps as compared to the Eid last year.”

Meanwhile, residents expressed concern over the surge in traffic incidents. Herat city resident, Sayed Akbar, said: “Youth and youngsters do not obey traffic rules.”
