5 killed, 20 injured in Kabul mosque attack

Sep 29, 2017 - 15:36

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Five people were killed and 20 others wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a Shiite mosqueinfo-icon in Kabul on Friday.

The attack happened in Qala-i-Fathullah area on the 7th road in the jurisdiction of the 10th police district of Kabul city at about 2pm, when worshippers were leaving the mosque for home after Friday’s prayers.

Interior Ministry spokesman Najeeb Danish told Pajhwok Afghan News that the victims were all civilians and that a suspect had been arrested in the area.

A Pajhwok reporter quoted eyewitnesses as saying there were three attackers in total, with the first blowing himself up about 20 meters away from the Hussainia mosque.

They said the second attacker was arrested by police and the third was able to flee.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the apparently sectarian attack, but Daesh or IS group had previously claimed credit for deadly attacks on the minority.
